Crash Data Retrieval System

The Fall 2000 issue of The Reconstructor featured an article on the Vetronix Crash Data Retrieval (CDR) System, which at that time had been recently acquired by Boster, Kobayashi and Associates. The system allows the downloading and processing of data from a vehicle’s "black box."

At the time we acquired the system, it supported GM vehicles from 1998 through 2000. The program has recently been expanded to include GM vehicles back to 1994 and Ford vehicles back to 2001. According to Vetronix, the manufacturer of the CDR, "GM and Ford wish to collect air bag deployment and crash data in order to improve vehicle safety design."

The National Transportation Safety Board and the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration have recommended that all vehicle manufacturers equip their vehicles with recorders capable of storing crash data.
