Our Documents website (www.ourdocuments.gov) is a national initiative on American History, Civics, and Service. At the heart of this initiative are 100 milestone documents of American history. The documents are posted here with background material, images and text of the document. Some of the one hundred documents are the Bill of Rights (1791), the Treaty of Ghent (1814), the Monroe Doctrine (1823), the Gettysburg Address (1863), the Surrender of Germany (1945), the Manhattan Project Notebooks (1945) and the Civil Rights Act (1964). The website is worth a visit. The Our Documents project is a collaborative effort of the National Archives and Records Administration, National History Day, and USA Freedom Corps. |
