Staff Profile - Brad Wong

Brad Wong joined the staff of Boster, Kobayashi & Associates in 1991, upon completion of his B.S. in Mechanical Engineering at the University of Southern California. He is a Registered Professional Mechanical Engineer as well as a Certified Playground Safety Inspector.

A Northern California native, Brad was born in San Francisco, but grew up in Livermore, and still resides in the Tri-Valley. He has always liked Northern California. "Livermore is a lot different today than it was when I first moved here over 30 years ago. But seeing how Northern California has developed over the years, and after my 4 year stay in Southern California, I knew that the Bay Area was the place for me."

Brad has always had a fascination with motor vehicles, which made the Mechanical Engineering field a perfect fit for him. "I remember always having an interest in not only fixing cars, but also understanding what makes them work, and how to make them better." While at Boster, Kobayashi Brad has kept up with new developments in the automotive field through involvement in organizations such as the Society of Automotive Engineers. He has also been certified in the Vetronix Crash Data Retrieval System, which collects data from "black boxes."

In addition to motor vehicle accident reconstruction, Brad has performed analyses regarding premises liability, product liability, biomechanics, human factors, product design/defects, nighttime visibility (forensic photography) and playground safety.

"A mechanical engineering degree is so versatile in the forensic field; it provides me the background and knowledge to analyze and understand more than just the typical auto accidents." All in all, he has analyzed over 1700 cases thus far.

Brad has worked on cases on the East Coast and all the way west to Hawaii. In fact Hawaii is where Brad first qualified as an expert in the area of accident reconstruction. "It was a gratifying experience to qualify as an expert in Hawaii after working for only 3 months at Boster, Kobayashi. Having co-workers to help me get up to speed in the field quickly made it easier to testify."

It is the atmosphere at the firm that makes Brad enjoy his work so much. "With each assignment always having a slightly different twist to it, the work is always engrossing. My co-workers are what make working in the forensic field so enjoyable. From experts at the top of the firm, like Tom Boster and Ted Kobayashi, to the office staff, everyone is on the same team and is willing to collaborate at any time.

I always expected I would work for a large corporation or government entity, but I found that I really like the small business atmosphere, where I get to know and interact with everyone."
